What is poly-DCPD RIM?
Poly-DCPD is a reactive dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) system.
At Promens Zlín, we process a poly-DCPD system with the commercial name Telene, which is proven to be ideal for the production of large parts.
Telene is a technologically elegant system, which is characterized by a number of excellent utility properties.
Practical advantages of poly-DCPD
Wide range of production options
Possibility to produce parts with a thickness ranging from just several to hundreds of millimetres and with an injection mass of up to several tens of kilograms
Cheaper forms
The low polymerization temperature and the principle of low-pressure technology enables the use of low-cost moulds
High polymer modulus without the need for fillers
Excellent chemical resistance
Easy to paint
High impact toughness – even at low temperatures

How is poly-DCPD material processed?
The essence of RIM technology is the injection of a monomer mixture directly into the production mould, where the mixture subsequently polymerizes under specific conditions. After polymerization is completed, the finished product is removed from the mould.
The required conditions for this process are a very low viscosity of the injected mass at a lower temperature than the temperature of the mould.
Unlike conventional injection moulding, whereby the melt is injected at high pressure into the mould, which is significantly colder than the melt temperature, low pressure is applied in this technology. This makes it possible to produce large parts (tens of kilograms) on relatively small devices and use light moulds.
